Injuries Force Chelsea To Take Risk With John Terry

Two years ago now TheChelseaBlog talked about the growing concerns for John Terry’s future. It’s always been the case with the Chelsea captain that irrespective of the bumps and bruises, he’ll pick himself up and get on with the game but when it’s gone past that and he’s thrown himself around the field for us with the aid of painkilling injections, then it’s probably going beyond the call of duty.

Not only that but whilst it might be reassuring for his various manager’s, not to mention his adoring fans to see him out there, the short-term benefits have been detrimental in the long-term. And what’s worse is, the club knows it, his manager has acknowledged it and still it’s being ignored.

Carlo Ancelotti has previously stated the days of sending unfit players onto the field were over and after Terry missed the internationals with a hamstring injury last month, only to play for us in the next game against West Ham, Ancelotti insisted He (Terry) needs to have more rest if he wants to stay at the top level for a long time, and I don’t like a player who wants to play with injuries or when he’s not 100per cent.”

So how come then, that after missing England’s game against Montenegro this week with a back injury, we’re told Terry is available for tonight’s game against Villa? Well, the Chelsea manager sheepishly says “This is a different moment. He had a problem on his back and tried to train, and it wasn’t perfect. He is not 100 per cent but I hope he will be.”

Or in other words ‘we’re short, so we’ll risk him’.

TheChelseaBlog.org is an honest insight to the World of Chelsea FC. Not always pretty, sometimes rather cynical, but always realistic.
