A Dynamic Duo For Chelsea?

hiddink-and-hughes

Last week, John Terry was saying he would be happy with either Guus Hiddink or Mark Hughes as the new Chelsea manager – today, we’re hearing it could in fact be both of them – anyone else find it all a bit odd?

Of Hiddink, JT was saying “He came in for a short space of time and we won the FA Cup under him. I have great memories of him, he is someone I have been in contact with since he left the club. The players completely respected him. He knows the players inside out as well. He would be welcomed back. If it is to be him, then great, or whoever it is, the players will naturally get on with it and work very hard under the new manager.”

Whilst on Hughes, the Chelsea captain was saying “Mark Hughes would have the qualities, I think he has shown that for sure, (he is) someone the club will hopefully be talking to. I know Mark and his background staff. The understanding of the club and what it means to the supporters will come naturally to those guys. If he is linked in, it will be welcome to the players.”

Now, we’re told Abramovich wants Hiddink back as director of football, with Hughes as first team coach, so did JT know a bit more than he was letting on? Certainly, there’s been plenty who’ve suggested Hughes could never have left Fulham without another job to go to, in spite of his insistence to the contrary but it still begs the question for me, why Hughes?

Would Chelsea really have sacked Carlo Ancelotti – a ,manager who had finished second to United last season and did the double the season before – for a manager who has never finished above 7th in the Premier League? You’d bloody hope not but unfortunately, I wouldn’t put it past them!
