Mata: Arsenal & Tottenham Don’t Compare

So, not only is new signing Juan Mata a useful addition to the Chelsea squad, he also has good taste!

Having signed a five year deal for us, our new Spanish winger  has made his thoughts on both Arsenal and Spurs known.

Both North London clubs were reportedly interested in Mata before we hastily signed him and following the completion of his deal at Stamford Bridge, the 23 year old said “I want to come to England to win trophies – and that’s why I accepted Chelsea’s offer.  It was also a question of sporting achievement, not money. Arsenal and Tottenham were both interested in me but they did not compare with the Blues.  I want the Premier League title and this is possible at Chelsea.”

Obviously whether or not we fulfil this belief of his remains to be seen but between his new team-mates and Andre Villas-Boas, Mata seems to have been convinced that good times lie ahead, saying “Fernando Torres helped influence my decision but speaking directly with Villas-Boas was the decisive factor.  He explained how his style will be based on 4-3-3 and how important I will be to his plans.  Frank Lampard is a monster of a footballer to play alongside and the prospect of that is incredible.”

Welcome to Chelsea!

Blue is the colour

TheChelseaBlog.org is an honest insight to the World of Chelsea FC. Not always pretty, sometimes rather cynical, but always realistic.
