‘Please keep him in our lineup’, some Chelsea fans praise 25-year-old’s pre-season showing

A section of the Chelsea supporters have reacted positively to the performance of Michy Batshuayi during yesterday’s pre-season friendly against Bohemians in Dublin.

The Belgium international played through the opening half of the game, and he managed to find the net in the eighth minute, shortly after Kennedy’s long-range attempt was blocked.

In the second period, the Blues could not maintain the momentum after a complete reshuffle of the starting 11 and this allowed Bohemians to find the late equaliser through trialist Eric Molly.

Despite the result, some Blues fans were pleased with the performance of a few players including Batshuayi, who netted the first non-competitive goal under the Lampard reign.

Here are some of the reactions on Twitter….

Batshuayi has been with the west London giants since the summer of 2016, but he has not been able to settle with loan stints at Borussia Dortmund, Valencia and Crystal Palace respectively in the past 18 months.

However, his fortunes could change during the forthcoming campaign with Lampard assuring every player with an equal chance to impress, and it remains to be seen whether he can break into the lineup.

At present, the Belgian faces direct competition from Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham upfront, but an impressive scoring run during pre-season could potentially reward him with regular first-team football.

Chelsea have another pre-season friendly in Dublin on Saturday where they are scheduled to face St Patrick’s Athletic at Richmond Park. Lampard is expected to field more senior players for the game.
