A selection of Chelsea fans have appreciated the performance of Olivier Giroud during the club’s convincing 4- friendly win over St Patrick’s Athletic on Saturday afternoon.
The Frenchman played no part in the opening pre-season game against Bohemians, but he got the chance to make an impression on Frank Lampard during the second half versus St Patrick’s.
The Blues were already leading 2-0 after the opening period, and Giroud managed to double the scoreline after a couple of brilliantly taken goals in the 67th and 88th minute respectively.
Giroud’s opening strike saw him convert with a neatly-taken volley from close range, while the second was far impressive as he dribbled his way through three defenders before finding the net at the far post.
Here are some of the reactions on Twitter over his showing…
Giroud is, atm, our best striker. #cfc

Giroud with no pace beating 2 defenders & scoring yet Tammy cant finish a simple 1 v 1 & the fan boys think he should be our 1st choice striker this season 🤦♂️ 3rd best so 3rd choice imo… not ready to be our 1st or 2nd, maybe next season. #CFC #CFCinDublin

-Mount should be in the squad
-Emerson should be the first choice LB
-Giroud is still our best striker
-Bakayoko is gonna Bakayoko

Excellent workout for Chelsea.
Giroud proving that class is permanent when it comes to scoring goals.
Batshuayi unlucky first half played well
Gilmour amazing potential
Lampard experimenting with formations and tactics – lovely to see the ball moving so quickly.

Giroud world cup winner and excellent Premiership striker given the respect he deserves. He will thrive under Lamps style and no nonsense approach to the game. How wrong can you be!

Olivier Giroud just proved to you guys why he's Chelsea's fussy choice striker. Batshuayi and Tammy Abraham just kept hitting straight shots at the keeper but Giroud only needed 2 shots to score 2 goals.

Giroud’s starting position has come under scrutiny ahead of the new campaign with the likes of Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi returning after their respective loan spells with Aston Villa and Crystal Palace respectively.
Moreover, Batshuayi has been particularly impressive through both pre-season games for the club, but he has not had much luck with just one goal to show for the efforts. As such, Giroud’s effectiveness in front of goal could potentially see him lead the line when the new season begins even though he does not possess the pace of Abraham or Batshuayi.
Giroud managed just 13 goals during the course of the previous campaign, considering he was rarely afforded with a regular run of starts in the Premier League. That could, however, change next term, should he continue with his scoring exploits during the next few weeks of pre-season.
