‘He has been fantastic’, some Chelsea fans praise 20-year-old’s display vs Reading

Some Chelsea fans have lavished praise on the second-half performance from Mason Mount during the friendly win over Championship side Reading on Sunday.

The young midfielder has already earned plenty of plaudits from the fans during pre-season and he continued his good impression by bagging a quick-fire brace in the 4-3 triumph over Reading.

Mount’s first strike came through a brilliant first touch just outside the box before lashing a shot at goal in the 57th minute. A few moments later, he was gifted with the second goal through a defensive lapse by Reading.

Following the game, a large section of the Blues supporters were elated with the showing and some believe the youngster should feature in the starting lineup for the league opener against Manchester United next month.

Here are some of the reactions on Twitter….

Mount has spent the past two seasons on loan with Vitesse Arnhem and Derby County respectively and at both those clubs, he was able to reach double figures in terms of scoring across all competitions.

He has been the Blues’ top-scorer in the current pre-season with three goals to date and it won’t come as a surprise, if Frank Lampard hands him with a starting role from the number 10 position against United.

Meanwhile, Ross Barkley has been another player, who has impressed with goals in back-to-back friendlies against Reading and Barcelona, and he could prove to be the direct competitor to Mount for the 2019/2020 season.
