Barkley and Mount start, Predicted Chelsea lineup (4-2-3-1) to face Red Bull Salzburg

Chelsea play their second-last pre-season friendly against Red Bull Salzburg on the road tonight. Frank Lampard has generally preferred to play with different lineups for the first and second half respectively, but he may consider offering more minutes to the players, who are likely to feature in the season opener in less than two weeks’ time.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Predicted Lineup:

Kepa Arrizabalaga sat out the recent friendly against Reading where the Blues picked up a 4-3 victory. The Spaniard will expect to feature in goal and could play through the entire 90 minutes.

In the defence, Lampard should consider a complete overhaul from the previous game. Cesar Azpilicueta and Emerson may replace Davide Zappacosta and Marcos Alonso on the right and left side of the backline.

Fikayo Tomori, who has been fancied to leave on loan, could drop to the bench alongside Andreas Christensen with Kurt Zouma and David Luiz taking up the central defensive duties.

Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic seem the likely midfield combination to start the league opener against Manchester United unless N’Golo Kante completely recovers from his knee problem. As such, Lampard may prefer to field the duo from the starting lineup.

In the attack, Ross Barkley, Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic could get the nod. Barkley scored a sublime free-kick against Reading and he has looked to play with more freedom under the guidance of Lampard.

Elsewhere, Mount has been the pick of the Blues players in pre-season and he continued to build his reputation with a quick-fire brace which sealed the victory at the Madejski Stadium last week.

Mount should feature in the number 10 spot with Barkley and Pulisic on the left and right wing respectively while Tammy Abraham should get the nod upfront in a young and exciting frontline.

Predicted Chelsea lineup vs Red Bull Salzburg: Kepa Arrizabalaga, Cesar Azpilicueta, Kurt Zouma, David Luiz, Emerson, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount, Ross Barkley, Tammy Abraham
