A few Chelsea fans have expressed their displeasure over the performance of Kurt Zouma during the club’s disappointing 4-0 loss to Manchester United on the road in the Premier League opener.
The France international started the game at the heart of the defence alongside Andreas Christensen but he appeared nervous after making his first competitive appearance for the Blues in more than two years.
Zouma nearly gifted Anthony Martial with the opening goal after a misplaced pass in the box and few moments later, he made another mistake to concede a needless penalty which was converted by Marcus Rashford in the 18th minute.
Thereafter, there were a number of occasions where Zouma drifted out of position from the central defensive duties, but overall, it was a collectively poor performance from the defence during the final half an hour where United scored three goals on the counter-attack.
Here is how some Chelsea fans reacted to Zouma’s performance….
It was obviously a tough but a good start to the league amid the result on the scoresheet. But I think that Frank should avoid felling in his line ups. I’m a big fan of Mount, but he shouldn’t have started neither Tammy. Please I don’t want to mention Zouma. Hopelessly

We have very poor defence. Azpi and Zouma were disastrous today

Probably.. I’m surprised zouma was that bad. I know he’s not very good on the ball and stuff but he’s usually very solid defensively.

Truly. I was impressed by his performance and Mason Mount. They all did well. My concern is Zouma.

Aside from Zouma, club-captain Cesar Azpilicueta had a forgettable game as he was outrun by the likes of Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford, and manager Frank Lampard surely needs a huge improvement from the duo ahead of the European Super Cup clash against Liverpool on Wednesday.
With Antonio Rudiger just returning to training after a knee problem, Zouma and Christensen will have to continue with their respective roles for the next few games and it remains to be seen whether the former, in particular, can come up with a better showing in midweek.
