‘Terrible of late’, some Chelsea fans slam experienced star after Leicester City draw

A selection of Chelsea supporters have put the blame on Cesar Azpilicueta following the club’s 1-1 Premier League draw against Leicester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The match saw Frank Lampard’s return to Stamford Bridge as the Blues manager and the club got off to the best possible start after Mason Mount scored within the opening 10 minutes.

The England youth international, who started his second league game on the bounce, managed to steal the box from Wilfred Ndidi before slotting his shot effortlessly past goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

Thereafter, the west London side remained under control over the proceedings until the half-time interval but the same was not the case in the second period where the Foxes eventually equalised.

Wilfred managed to turn from villain to hero for the Foxes with a goal in the 67th minute from a corner after he was able to leap higher than Azpilicueta, who was initially slow to react to the threat.

As such, a section of the supporters have been left disappointed with the Spaniard’s performance for not the first time this season and a few have expressed their views on Twitter following the game.

Azpilicueta has endured a difficult beginning to the current season and he has already been guilty for four of the seven goals conceded by the Blues across all competitions.

Still, he should continue to get the backing of Lampard to turn things around but a few of the faithful believe that young graduate Reece James should slot into the right-back role, once he returns to full fitness.
