‘Real deal’, ‘Top quality’, some Chelsea fans praise forward’s display vs Lille

A section of the Chelsea supporters have heaped praise on Callum Hudson-Odoi, who provided a key assist during the 2-1 Champions League triumph over Lille on Wednesday night.

The teenager has been in impressive touch since his return from a long-term Achilles injury and he made the difference after coming off the bench in the 67th minute.

With the scores level at 1-1, Hudson-Odoi added more urgency in the attack as he was prepared to take on the defenders from the left wing and he eventually made the key difference in the 77th minute.

The England international managed to provide a delightful floated cross over the Lille defence and Willian fully capitalised on the moment with a sublime volley which beat goalkeeper Mike Maignan fair and square.

While Willian will certainly hit the headlines for the winner on the night, a section of the fans have appreciated Hudson-Odoi, who has contributed one goal and two assists in less than 180 minutes of action this term.

Twitter Reactions:

With the result, the Blues have registered their first win of the Champions League campaign and that sees them level on points with second-placed Valencia, though the Spanish side are ahead of them on the head-to-head statistic.

Before the international break, the west London giants have an away league trip to Southampton and it will be interesting to see whether Frank Lampard is willing to hand Hudson-Odoi with his first league start of the season.

Mason Mount and Willian have certainly cemented their starting spots under Lampard over the past month but there is the room for Hudson-Odoi to become a permanent figure on the left wing, provided he can remain unscathed and maintain a high level of performance.
