Chelsea have been given the opportunity to sign the Atletico Madrid attacker, Thomas Lemar, on an initial loan deal.
The Evening Standard claim Lemar could join the Blues on an initial 12-month deal, before completing a permanent £50m move.
The Frenchman has not lived up to expectations at Atletico, since his €60m move from Monaco 18-months ago. The report suggests Chelsea would face competition from rivals Tottenham for Lemar’s signature. The former Monaco star was wanted by Arsenal before he made the move to La Liga. However, the Gunners have since paid £72m for Nicolas Pepe.
The 24-year-old would add more options to the Blues wing options. Christian Pulisic, and Willian have performed well. Although there is some uncertainty over the Brazilians future. Callum Hudson-Odoi is only just finding his feet after a long-term layoff, and Pedro doesn’t appear to be in Frank Lampard’s plans, with a January move away from West-London a real possibility.
Lemar fits the bill. Young, energetic and not too expensive. Especially when you consider Crystal Palace want £80m for Wilfried Zaha. There’s still three-weeks left of the January transfer window, so this is one to look out for.
