Great news for Chelsea fans – Reece James commits to long-term future at Stamford Bridge

Reece James has been somewhat of a revelation during his brief Chelsea career so far. After a season on loan at Wigan Athletic, the 20-year-old returned to Stamford Bridge with high hopes under the management of Frank Lampard.

Despite missing the start of the season through an ankle injury sustained on England under-21 duty during the summer, the right-back has forced his way into the starting line-up after some excellent performances.

The highlight being the equaliser in the stunning 4-4 draw with Ajax. James is continuing to improve with many predicting an extremely bright future of the Blues academy graduate.

Now the news fans have been waiting for has arrived. James has signed a new five-and-a-half- year contract, keeping him at the bridge until at least 2025.

Announced on the clubs official website chelseafc.com, the youngster shared his joy by saying:

‘It has been my dream to be here at Chelsea and play week in week out and to have a contract for another five-and-a-half years is living the dream again.’

Club director Marina Granovskaia is also quoted as giving her opinion:

‘Reece started his football education with us at the age of six and his performances on loan at Wigan last season paved the way for a strong beginning to his career in the Chelsea team. We are very pleased he now has the perfect opportunity to build on that and become a major player for us for many years to come.’

Reece James’ full interview is available via the club’s 5th Stand app.

The news adds to the new contracts Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Fikayo Tomori signed last year. The Blues are securing bright young stars to long-term contracts to serve the club for many years to come.

Frank Lampard is building something special. Reece James’ new deal is another piece of the jigsaw in building a bright future for the club.
