Opinion: ‘Crazy idea’ – Tammy Abraham could be forced to play through the pain barrier as Chelsea continue striker search

Tammy Abraham could face Leicester City on Saturday, despite being injured. This is the suggestion being made in a report from The Telegraph.

Abraham was injured late in the Blues 2-2 draw with Arsenal last week. The 22-year-old collided with an advertising hoarding, leaving him to limp through the final minutes of the London derby.

The Blues have been heavily linked with Edinson Cavani and Krzysztof Piatek. However, with only days remaining in the transfer window the Blues look no closer to completing any deals.

Olivier Giroud looks to be off with Inter Milan favourites. Although latest reports form Sky Sports claim the Italian’s are considering pulling out of any potential deal.

Taking a risk on Abraham’s fitness would be madness from Chelsea. The risk of long-term injury is not one worth taking for a sake of it. It if comes down to it, and no new striker arrives – there’s no reason why Michy Batshuayi can’t fill that role short-term. The Blues also have other options with the possibilty of playing a false nine if needed. Whatever happens it’s a crazy idea to even consider playing an injured player… Don’t do it!
