Chelsea could join the race for Barcelona flop Philippe Coutinho, according to reports. The Brazilian has largely failed at the Camp Nou following a £142m move from Liverpool in 2018.
Even a loan spell in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich has done little to see his form improve. The 27-year-old has managed six-goals, and six-assists in league action this season.
The Daily Express are reporting Barca are keen to offload the Brazil international at a knock down price. The report claims a fee of £77m would be enough for the La Liga giants to allow Coutinho to leave.
Chelsea would certainly have plenty of competition for the Attacking-midfielder. Former club Liverpool are believed to be interested in Coutinho returning to Anfield.
Also Manchester United, Manchester City, and Tottenham are likely to show an interest. Bayern could also yet decide to make the deal permanent. Although the report claims they’ve decided not to do so already. Even so, the Germans option to buy is set at £102m.
Other European clubs are also in the frame. Spanish publication, Mundo Deportivo, claim a return to Italy is on the cards. Juventus being offered an opportunity to sign Coutinho. The Brazilian spent five-years at Inter Milan, before his £8.5m move to Merseyside. PSG are also mentioned as a possible suitor.
Would Chelsea be interested?
Frank Lampard has made no secret of a need to improve the current squad. Coutinho is premier league proven, having excelled during his time at Liverpool. However, based on form, Coutinho would still be a gamble at the price being mentioned. Whatever happens, the Brazilian is sure to fill a few column inches during the summer.
