Olivier Giroud: ‘Right now, I’m 100 per cent focused on Chelsea’s targets’ – Frenchman looks to give his all to Blues cause

During January, Olivier Giroud looked likely to be saying au revoir to his time at Chelsea. However, the Blues failure to find a replacement left the Frenchman in limbo.

Giroud has hardly figured for Frank Lampard this season. Making only seven-appearances, scoring once. His 20-minute cameo against United was only his fifth-appearance in the premier league.

The 33-year-old was unlucky to be flagged offside pulling a goal back for Chelsea. The decision was no doubt correct, but showed a better level of sharpness than Michy Batshuayi.

Talking to, Giroud spoke about the goal that wasn’t. He said:

“After two months not playing, I felt very good on the pitch with a lot of energy and determination,’ he said. ‘I scored a nice goal from a nice cross and I just tried to stay behind Maguire but I was half a foot offside.”

Giroud is fully focused on the job in hand, as well as having one eye on his international chances ahead of Euro 2020.

“I’m a Chelsea player so now I need to move on and look forward,’ explained Giroud. ‘I want to give everything for the team and it’s a personal target for me to play as much as I can to play the Euros with my country.”

“Right now, I’m 100 per cent focused on Chelsea’s targets and I want to keep fighting to come back on to the team sheet and the scoresheet. Every single game is a big opportunity for me to show my desire to do that.”

Giroud has proved what a professional he is. No moaning or whinging, the Frenchman just gets on with what is asked of him. With Tammy Abraham injured, and Batshuayi misfiring, there is no better time for him to step up and fire Chelsea to a top-four finish.

It’s a squad game these days, the Blues may have failed to add go their striking options in January, but Giroud has all the experience and ability to fill the void.
