‘Let’s go to Munich with pride’ – Chelsea striker remains defiant, delivering his verdict on champions league defeat

It was a night to forget for Chelsea. A comfortable 3-0 win for Bayern Munich, has as good as killed the tie off. The Germans were simply a cut above anything Chelsea had to offer.

Olivier Giroud lacked any decent service as he led the line. A very frustrating night for the Frenchman.

Talking to chelseafc.com, the 33-year-old summed up the evenings proceedings. He said:

“It was a difficult night, ‘They were too strong. It’s hard to say but they deserved to win.”

The Frenchman was happy with the frst-half performance that saw us go in at the break at 0-0.

“At half-time the feeling was we were matching them. We had a few good opportunities also. If I go a bit early on Mason’s cross I think I would have been offside anyway, but that was close. We had hope after the first half.”

Giroud emphasised the problems the Blues had, by adding:

“It was difficult for the attackers,, I didn’t see a lot of the ball. You spend a lot of energy running after the ball when they have the ball. The problem was when we got the ball back, maybe we missed some personality and energy because you work hard to get it back. They place such importance on possession.”

Despite the nature of the task ahead of the second-leg, Giroud remains upbeat that the Blues can go to Germany and perform with pride.

“It’s nearly impossible but without belief you can’t do anything. Let’s go to Munich with pride and we will try to score and win that game. It’s going to be difficult to go through but you never know.”

It almost feels pointless ahead of the second-leg. Stranger things have happened, but in reality it looks over. That’s not to say we can’t go there and give it our best shot.
