‘Yes. Yes. Yeah, of course’ – French ace could extend Chelsea stay

Olivier Giroud looked on his way out of Stamford Bridge just over a month ago. Tottenham and Inter Milan were both strongly linked with a move for the striker.

Now, following an injury layoff for Tammy Abraham, the Frenchman has become the Blues first choice striker, beating off competition from Michy Batshuayi.

A stunning early goal against Tottenham has resurrected his season. Prior to his recent run in the first-team, Giroud had only made seven-appearances this campaign.

The 33-year-old will see his current deal expire in the summer, leaving him free to leave Stamford Bridge. However, quotes from the Evening Standard make it sound as if it’s not as ‘black and white’ as we first thought.

When asked about whether he’d be interested in agreeing a new deal, the Frenchman replied:.

“Yes. Yes. Yeah, of course.”

There’s no doubt the striker is keeping his options firmly open, he added:

“There are a few months to go, games to win and maybe another trophy, and after, you know, I think I have two (or) three nice seasons in front of me. It’s not the time to talk about contracts and everything but I will take a decision when it comes.”

The Frenchman is happy to give his all for Frank Lampard, feeling pleased the Blues legend has faith in him.

“I just spoke with the manager and I believed what he said, that I would get my chance and he has given me my chance. I have basically tried to give his confidence back on the pitch.”

Confidence is a key factor, but Giroud will be happy to be pushed that extra yard when Tammy Abraham returns.

“My confidence is getting higher and higher because I am playing more games. I don’t know how long Tammy will be out for, to be honest. When he comes back, I will need him to be ready and then we can have a good competition again, which will be good for the team.”

It’s great to hear Giroud acting like the model professional we know he is. It’s unlikely a deal will be struck, with Chelsea eyeing a number of strikers, but for now it’s important the Frenchman’s confidence works to the benefit of the team.
