Blues to rival Barcelona for Arsenal striker

Chelsea’s hunt for another striker was well publicised during the January transfer window. Ultimately the Blues didn’t add to their squad, instead seeing Olivier Giroud regain first-team opportunities after Tammy Abraham was injured.

Now, according to 90mins, Chelsea are monitoring the situation Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The 31-year-old will see his contract expire with Arsenal at the end of next season.

With no new agreement in place, the report suggests Arsenal don’t want to find themselves in a similar position as the one they faced with Aaron Ramsey. The Welshman joined Juventus on a free transfer last summer.

The publication are reporting the story as an exclusive, claiming a source has told them Chelsea are one of many clubs to show an interest. The report suggests Barcelona are also considering a move, although their priorities lie elsewhere.

Aubameyang has been success during his time in North London, netting on 61-occasions in 96-appearances. The Gabon international turns 31 in June, which is not in keeping with Frank Lampard’s youth philosophy, but would add experience to ranks being proven at premier league level.

Arsenal could recoup a fair bit of the £54m they paid Borrussia Dortmund for his services. Although football’s future financial climate is unknown as we all battle against the Coronavirus.
